Risk Manager
Location: Hybrid to Manchester, Peterborough or Stoke-On-Trent
We are looking for a Risk Manager who will play a pivotal role in shaping and strengthening the organisation’s risk culture, providing strategic counsel to senior leaders and influencing decision making. You will actively engage and support functional areas of the business in maintaining an appropriate and effective approach to Risk Management Frameworks, Methodologies and Practices supporting the organisational objectives.
Key Accountabilities:
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing constructive support, insight and challenge, promoting an active and informed risk-based decisions.
- Engage proactively with risk owners (up to ExCo Level) within business functions to support the assessment and management of risk and control environments. This includes
- Emerging Risk Identification: Collaborating with business stakeholders to surface and assess strategic and emerging risks.
- Deep Dive Risk Analysis: Conducting in-depth assessments of material and critical risks to inform decision-making.
- Incident Resolution: Providing subject matter expertise to resolve high-complexity operational risks with effective control measures.
- Driving Initiatives: Leading corrective actions when risk gaps are identified,
- Implement and embed the Group’s Risk Management Framework across business functions.
- Review and oversee key governance documents, including policies, frameworks and process guides.
- Prepare high-quality reports for Divisional and Group Risk Committees, ensuring accurate, clear messaging and challenging information where needed.
- Support the effective operation of the Group’s risk management system.
- Design and deliver risk themed training across the business where required.
- Support and influence the investigation, analysis and reporting of incidents, ensuring learning is captured and embedded.
Skills, Attributes and Experience:
Required:
- Comprehensive understanding of risk frameworks, methodologies and practices.
- Relevant qualification or business partnering experience.
- Self-starter with ability to work on own initiative, forming independent sound judgements.
- Strong communicator, with ability to build relationships, influence and challenge at senior levels.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a risk focussed role with an insurance / broking / commercial background.
- Analytic and problem-solving skills.
- Adaptable to changing priorities.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint & Word).
